Ragu kala pooja is done to Goddess Durgai amman on Tuesday,Fridayand Sunday in Ragu kalam hours.
10 : 30 am to 12: noon on Fridays
4 : 30 pm to 6 : 00 pm on Sundays

By performing this pooja students excel in their studies, unmarried get married with a right partner and the married live in peace and prosperity.
In the Shrine of Lordess Durga, devotees light up lamps using inverted lime filled with ghee. This lamp is placed on a metallic plate spread ed with turmeric rice (Akshathai).
Flowers,Fruits , Betel leaves( Vetrrilai), Are ca nuts ( Pakku) and some food is offered as neivedhiyam to the Goddess.
One can light 1, 3, 5, 7 or maximum 9 lamps.
This pooja is conducted in durga shrines situated in amman temples, after lighting up lime lamps the priest perform pooja and harathi to the goddess,devotees can conduct bhajans, or chant mantra of Goddess Durga .
There is a hear say story about Durga pooja i would like to share it.
It is believed a childless couple was blessed with a female child after they performed Durga pooja,
But as per the astrological calculations, the child will die at the age of 9 due to Raagu dosham.
The couple continued to perform Durga pooja and had full belief in the Goddess durga and begged to save thier child.
At the age of 9 , Raagu bagvan took the shape of snake and proceeded to bite the child. Goddess protected the child from raagu,but Raagu continued his efforts to kill her. Seeing this Goddess took the shape of the child and appeared before Raagu he immediately bit her. When he realised that he had bitten the goddess , he pleaded for forgiveness and said that he will leave the child and relieve her from Dosham.
Lime Lamp & its significance
The Silver plate (Tambalam)resembles Lord Brahmma, Turmeric rice (Akshatai) resembles Maha Vishnu,the half cut lime resembles Lord Shiva the Ghee resembles ganga which flows from Lord shiva.
The flame resembles Godess Lakshmi , the brightness resembles Godess Saraswathi and the heat signifies Godess Durga.
Betel nuts represents Naava Graha Sun (suriyan) , Moon( Chandran), Mars( Chevvai ),Mercury(Bhudan),Jupiter (Guru),Venus (Sukran),Saturn(Shani), Ragu, Kethu they will be present and witness the pooja and shower their blessings.
Raagu kala Durga pooja is performed to overcome ill effects of Raagu and shani, the lime is beleived to absorb all our ill effects and burn the same. Since burning the ill effects created by raagu and shani, it is advisable to do it in a temple and not at home.
